    PMA Requests

The annual PMA tradeshow starts this weekend. I'll be there and so will some of our other PhotographyREVIEW.com compatriots. So put us to work! What do you want to see? What do you want to know more about? We'll take pictures, take notes and maybe even shoot some video for you. I've already got appointments with all the big camera makers but I'm sure I haven't thought of everything. Make your requests now so I can start planning

Want to know more? Check out the 2010 PMA Tradeshow Page >>

I noticed that Clik Elite's got a new set of bags coming out. I'd love to know more about those.

I want to know if the rumors are true about Kodak releasing Ektar 100 in sheet format for Large Format cameras (4x5 8x10 even!).

Axle - look over at the right-hand column over there, scroll down and see what you can find...

Of course. Those guys are my homies. And like I told Axle, take a look over there at that right-hand column and see if anything there interests you

Sony and Nikon news - we have a developer at work (also rally driver!) who wants to know more about what's coming in both systems.
He's leaning towards Sony at the moment, but does concert photography and Nikon shines in low light. So he's unsure which way to go.

Olympus News! Hoping for new lenses for the M4/3 - maybe an E-P3....and whatever else they might want to show off with.

Did someone say Canon won't be there?

I'll second the request to keep an ear to the ground for Sony's DSLR's... They've been pretty quiet on the subject of a successor to the a700, or a "sport" friendly DSLR of some sort.

The word on Sony now seems to be a couple of smaller micro 4/3 type bodies with APS-C sensors, Next3 and Next5, and a Next7 for the fall with the A7xx to be announced more like June. Of course the 'word' is subject to second by second change. Will be fun to watch. - TF

I hadn't heard that, but I don't pay much attention to rumors. That would be neat, though. The mini "system camera" category is starting to heat up. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the Samsung NX10 at the show. The more competition the better for those of us who are likely to use those cameras

And if Sony makes an adapter for the A-mount, it would be great for Sony/Minolta lens owners.

btw - The 'word' calls the new Sony mount the E-mount.

    Got To Meet GB1

I had the pleasure of meeting GB1, today. We met outside the consumer portion of this year's PMA tradeshow in Anaheim. We talked about cameras, the Web site and the planned trip to climb Mt. Whitney next year. It's always nice to meet another community member. Greg doesn't really like to be on the other side of the camera, but he was graceful enough to allow this one mug shot

I've got a gallery started for the 2010 PMA coverage. There are only a few posted at this point, but the show doesn't actually start until tomorrow.

    Alan's Report

Alan Davis, aka. "kafin8ed" wrote us up a report about his day at PMA: http://reviews.photographyreview.com...ne-day-at-pma/

Alan is a Nikon shooter so he took a good look at Nikon gear as well as the Micro Four Thirds and newer compact system camera options.

Does Sigma have any of those new lenses at PMA? I'd love to see a sample shot from that 85mm f/1.4.

Ohhhh - good idea! They do have the lenses. We have a video of them but I didn't even think of trying them. I think Alan might have tried the 85mm lens. If I have time today I'll see if I can get a few test shots with it, although they'll be with the 7D and not a full frame camera.

Thank you kafin8ed, and PJ for the photos at PMA. I really enjoy looking thru them.
That Sigma 50-500 looks quite tasty.

7D is fine. I just want to know how the bokeh looks and whether it is as sharp at wide apertures as the 50mm Sigma is. Also, an estimated price would be good to know.

    Thanks!

Ha ha .. Yeah I like taking pix better than posing for them. Here's your pic fearless leader !!! Hope the real PMA went good (had to fly Sunday morning for work) -- did they have a D700x / whatever they call it over at Nikon?

That's actually a pretty good photo of me. Thanks for making me look good!

No D700x at Nikon. As I thought, it was just a hopeful rumor. There were actually no real camera introductions at this PMA. All the announcements were made at CES in January or sometime in between the two shows.

    Sony Compact Alpha Announcement

At PMA, Sony had a press conference where they announced they're working on a compact system camera like the Micro Four Thirds cameras. Turned out it was the biggest announcement of the show. Since this was also the first time I got to see the new Samsung NX10 and the first time Olympus publicly showed the new E-PL1 Micro Four Thirds camera, I used the Sony announcement to write a compact system camera overview article. It's got photos and a video, too.
