    I don't know ...
in the B&W the clouds look great,
and I lie the color of the water,
the trees are not to appealing in either of the shots,
if they had more contrast in the b&w would say go with the b&w

    Re: The Pond

    Definitely the black and white.

In this case, I think the color is detracting from the photo. With color, it loses some of it's highlight quality in the water, and some of the contrast quality in the clouds. Most of all though, the color of the trees is (in my opinion) kind of that ugly winter yellow/red/green you get in the middle of winter.

The black and white though takes care of all those issues and gives you a pretty cool shot. The only thing I would suggest in the B/W shot is to expose the trees a bit more and add some contrast into them.

The BW one is is nice. The upper sky might benefit from just a touch of noise reduction. Not much, because you don't want to mess with the nice textures of the clouds.

    Re: The Pond

B&W with more contrast. That is some selective contrast on this image because the sky looks wonderful as it stands. I would suggest playing with the colours in the B&W conversion to.

Another adjustment is to crop at least half the water at the bottom. Makes a much nicer composition.

B&W for me please....the color one seems rather dull, but B&W suit well in this one IMO.

    Re: The Pond

At first I chose color but after comparing for awhile, I decided the majority here is right. The B&W has something about it -- maybe it's just easier on the eye, whereas the color of the water against the trees or the highlight color of the water or something is off -- I can't quite figure it out. Maybe it's the fact that there is so much of the water -- Roger's crop idea is excellent.

B&W for me also, nice tones and textureous (if that's a word) skies.

I think it needs another element. Something in the foreground or water. I like the B&W as well. The color version looks flat.

Thanks everyone for the great reply's. I'm going to work the B&W with more contrast, a crop and see how it goes. Great critiques on this, very much appreciated.
