Playing around with the 300mm f/2.8

Went to a nearby forest preserve on my lunch break to try and get a feel for the 300 2.8 I rented before we go eagle watching Sunday. I was hoping there'd be some birds around, but they were all on their lunch breaks I guess :P

Anyway, just walked around down to the Des Plaines River and then around the pond. The only bad thing was I was nearly falling asleep on my keyboard at work that afternoon, all the trudging through snow was tiring

Are you using a monopod? Heavy, isn't it? - TF

No monopod, just handheld it. It's quite heavy though. Six pounds, I think?

Wow, I'm surprised how different these look in comparison to those from its f/4 sibling. Nice sharpness and unique bokeh wide open.

Very impressive indeed. Thank you for sharing these. I hope I don't end up buying one.

I bought one, and haven't regretted anything except the weight
Taking it in carry-on baggage will be interesting this trip !

The bokeh is really lovely. And it stayed sharp, even shooting as low as 1/250th with me struggling to hold it steady. Really spectacular lens

Hopefully the rain predicted for tomorrow will hold off and I'll be able to get out a bit.
