Yellow Rumped (Myrtle) Warbler at home

I know this shot is a little busy, but it shows him at home in a crepe myrtle bush. Please critique

Very nice! Nice solid focus across the eye, nice shallow DOF considering the surroundings, and pleasant composition.

I don't find the foreground leaves intrusive but find the branch through the head mildly so (only because it intersects the head right at the focal point - the eye). But overall the image is nice and pleasant and I do enjoy seeing the environment.

Composing tight bird shots is difficult because the eye is so far removed from the tail. But I think you did extremely well here - especially considering it is of a fleet-footed insect eating warbler. I think I would still crop out a slice off the right side though to bring the eye right of center.

My first reaction, I really do like this shot. Wish I could do as well.
Now since Loupey mentioned the "branch through the head" if it were mine, I'd probably attempt a clone out of the branch.

Speaking of the branch, I believe you'll find this is wax myrtle ; not crepe myrtle bush. We've got multiples of each on our place.

Did I say the picture is very enjoyable viewing?

Great capture. It could be cleaner, but I think it is a very nice environmental shot as it is. - TF

These are so difficult, and you have done very well. the sharpness in the eye is right. the scene is a bit busy as you stated, but the lighting and focus on the bird helped bring it out.
i agree with a crop from the right side maybe halfway between the frame and the darke vertical branch.
The background branch through the head is the reall issue here. Its not too bad, but if you had the time and skill to remove it, which should not be too difficult, i think it would improve a lot.
    Nice work

Seeing photographs like this helps me to keep my feet on the ground and never to take for granted what nature has bestowed on us. Luckily, the branch that Gary refers to is probably one of the easiest to remove.
What a little beauty he/she is and very well done to you hb1994 for getting this shot and showing it to us.
