    Follow the bread crumbs...

I took several pics on my Xmass trip to the US, this one taken in Lost Maples sate park. As expected all the nice colors of autumn were gone, few pics came out decent, this one the first I edited so far (new year starting lazy)

My sort of country Rob, but I'd like to see the big rock bought more into frame and the vingretting toned down slightly

Nice but I have to say the vignetting (sp?) spoils it for me

    Re: Follow the bread crumbs...

Thanks for your inputs chaps, yes the vignetting was done in PS, I was tring to make some sort of fairy tale type of look, may be I overdid it. Also on my office screen which I using right now I can see a redish branch (center left) I´ll look into some desaturation to correct the tone.

Love the scene. the path into the clearing is very inviting and yet mysterious. i agree about the heavy vignetting, i do think its needed to this degree. I am not seeing the reddish branch center left that you referred to.
    Nice scene

    Re: Follow the bread crumbs...

I agree about the vignetting and cannot see the red branch. One thing I might consider but would have to experiment to decide if it worked is to offset the vignette, so that it leads the eye more into the picture leaving possible the top with a thinner vignette.

I would also experiment with less saturation and possibly a B&W too and see how you go with this.

    Hope that helps

Agree with the others. Placement of the vignetting is fine but opacity is a bit on the strong side.

I like the shot allot, if you have to adjust anything maybe pull back the vignetting a little.

Yep, ditto the V -- though I do think it does give a fairytale effect...

I don't see the red branch either.

I also agree about the V but really love the shot! It makes me think of Alice following the White Rabbit into Wonderland. Nice work!!

Thanks Roger, Jet, Chris, Paula and Lexy for your words. I haven't posted the outcome with a slighter V do to that I´m exploring some other options.

Lexy yeap that Alice mood is what I was aiming for, tho the title that I chose was tilted towards the Grimm Brothers LOL.

    Re: Follow the bread crumbs...

I see the path into the clearing, but (for me anyway) it is blocked. My eye goes to the stump/log, stops and looks for a way around. After quite some time of looking at it, I can 'jump' the log and make it into the bright area. I think you need to be sure that there is enough interesting stuff in the foreground to keep the interest until the 'jump' can be made. Does this make any sense???

Also, the top part doesn't seem to have any purpose. I think I would like it better as a square crop with just some of the sky remaining.

Very beautiful scene and I agree you can back off of the vignetting a little. Good shot.

    Re: Follow the bread crumbs...

Here we go...reduce the V a bit. On the other hand must say that I like the V as it was do to that I was watching the pic in a black background which made the pic slowly "appear" and increase its clarity towards the center....here on a white background that effect is lost.

I hear ya....I haven't looked it that way, the main point is precisely the log surrounded by this "dome" made of branches. The vignetting aided this "dome" effect.

Great shot, man. I like the original crop far better, though. This might look awesome in b/w.

    Re: Follow the bread crumbs...

I think the Vignette has been toned down a little too much to make it convey the title. About half way between the two would be about right I think.

Thanks Dray!. I did try it on B&W without liking the result, it is a too "crowded" image and a monotone approach made things dull.
