I think you got the curve of water and shore just right.
I wish the figures on the beach were closer.
    Did you use a polarizer?

Did you have your parka and mittens on?

    Thanks Frog,

It was shot with just the Canon Power Shot A470, no polarizer, and I was guessing about the framing because of glare on the LCD, with the setting sun at my back. I am still trying to learn how to use the camera, and in retrospect I should have used the zoom to bring everything closer.

The temp by this time was about 60 F so I took my parka and mittens off and went for a little dip.

    Hello,
I took the liberty of borrowing your shots (I hope not to have you offended) to demonstrate how I would see myself, my English is not very good and did not know if I explained well.
First of all I find too much space down and I had a sword.
I also find the colors a bit dull, I made a little speech levels. You shot at 80 ISO, ƒ/5.8 and 1 / 640 second. I would have increased the exposure time so as to close the aperture more and have more depth of field.
Before saving I made a small fix with Unsharp Mask

Thanks, your version is better. This is my first digital and is a very basic one, (Canon Powershot A470), point and shoot. I am trying to learn how the controls work, and trying to see if a DSLR is in my future.
