Thought I would try something different for a change. What do you think?

Very nice, very creative use and management of light.
BTW do you realize that cameras work in daylight? LOL

I love shots like these. However, I think you could improve it with just a little light bounced onto the bottom of the horn -- the round rim that is so bright is a little distracting. The main thing I noticed, though, is the eyes of your angel. The shadowed eyes look too sinister for such a sweet looking angel. If you could get some light onto her eyelids, I think she would look more....well.....angelic! And while I'm nitpicking, I might also say that the concentration of light beneath her dress is a little too much.

Thanks for the reply's. I think I'm going to have to work on this a bit to get it right. It's defiantly out of my "comfort zone", but I like the challenge.

I am feeling a bit of a fraud here as I really can't comment on the technical aspects and i have a feeling that I am reading other peoples critiques and 'copying' them - at least to a certain extent. I looked at this image and then read the comments about the light on the rim of the horn, the light through the dress and the shadowed eyes and agree with all of them but wonder whether that influenced my thought process.... I think what i need to do is look at the image and comment before reading everyone elses thoughts.
Overall I like this but I do agree that it has a slightly sinister feel to it.

kisu: I can so relate with your post here -- and I came to the same conclusion you did. In the beginning, I just read the posts and thought, yeah, now I see that. Then I got to where I would look at the photo before reading others' posts and ask myself: "Now, what would (name of a poster who knows more than you) say about this? What would (name of that poster) like or not like? -- and compare their thoughts to mine. Now I've come to the place where I ask that question of myself FIRST -- sometimes others agree, many times not. And many, many times I know there's something really good about a photo (or not), but I don't know what it is -- but somebody else will idenitfy it. This analysis process is as helpful in its own way (I think) as is actually clicking the camera. It's not fraud -- it's learning, IMHO!!
Canyon Hiker: As you see, your "challenge" is also our challenge. Your willingness to get out of your CZ inspires me to do so as well.

This will be a very difficult shot to get right as there is so much light contrast from bright to dark.
If it is stationary as it appears I would do some bracketing to see what comes out best so the center isn't so bright and then where the shadow areas come out more and then either re-do the bracketing or if you have at least 3 to 5 that are working in those areas, then I'd try an hdr.
Is that the right way.....I don't know but its at least a semi educated guess.
Kisu, I was encouraged to critique, whn i first showed up here and it is what has taught me more about my own work than anything else. It is not only the experts opinion that counts but also those who are less refined in technique and technical ability. It teaches us why we think a photo is excellent or ho-hum and the differences and we soon attempt to try to get what we think of us as excellent in our own shots.
