    Dirty Dirt Bike

Went and shot this thing again. What do you think?
EDIT: Well, for one thing, I see it's not sharp enough. 1/100 handheld is a problem. And it seems blue -- I remember now I didn't change the WB from sun to cloud or custom. What else do you see?

    Paula,

I can imagine the ad in the Oklahoma Gazette, "Motorsicle for sail, rally good cornditn, only ridin on weakens, $2,000.00 or 10 paymets of $20.00 call call Daryl or his Brother Daryl (OU footbal payers) at 555-5555.

Seriously, I like the angle, the composition, and the story, about the only improvements I can think of would be better focus and DOF, and MAYBE do it in B & W.

Appropriately titled, that's for sure! I love the shot, but to me it screams out for more contrast...

I like this a lot and the bike's certainly been well used (a story to tell). I don't know whether you have cropped the top and bottom of the photo but wondered whether it might benefit if the bike wasn't so tightly framed??? I agree that it has a slight blue / grey tone and as was said earlier it might benefit from being shot in B+W. All in all I would be very happy to have taken this

ROFL GREAT AD! - But fer a qwik Sooner sail, I would have to include the best selling point of all:

    "Runs fastust on Bio-Fuel...... made....from.....CRUSHED Korn..............huskers"

BOOMER SOONER, Baby, All the Way!!

I like your B&W idea. We have gray skies today, but I will try it again.

Nice shot there...only pointers to improve that I can think of is to avoid the object in the bottom right corner and shoot it at a higher speed to avoid motion blur.

Is this better? I still had to handhold, but I did try to brace myself and utilize HF and made a stab at some PP.

My thanks to you all for your comments and suggestions.

That's hilarious! You don't know the hours and days and beyond that I have sat and struggled with this...and still do...

Glad to be of some help. And I think that is the idea of the forum, grab ideas and points of improvement. I`m a newB too and being part of this form encourages me to shoot more and see what other are doing is inspiring.
If you continue to "struggle" in no time you`ll be PRO....everybody starts in the "struggling" point and climb up in technique, knowledge and vision.

Yup! Be careful what ya dish out cause ya might get some on yer plate.

I read your PM Congratulations from a Husker to a Sooner for a win - or anything - is oh, so Suh-Weet (seriously, thanks for your encouragement and your B&W idea:thumbsup: )
    Now...back to the trash talk....:

Sooners spanked the Cowboys 27 to Zip. And, of course, you know over the past ten years the Sooners have come away with more wins than losses over the Longhorns in the Big Red Rivalry. And, of course, there's nothing a Sooner likes better than a tailgate piled high with nice CORN(as in husker)-fed, chopped Longhorn beef. mmm-mmm good I have a Longhorn granddaughter, so we'll be hoping for cornhusker fodder for those hungry Horns! HOOK'EM HORNS!:cornut:

You say you just got back from the beach? You know we send our used water your way; right? We have over a hundred miles of "shore" line that connects us to you (Port of Catoosa, MClellan-Arkansas Navigation System)

I'm going now to check the weather rock...if it's still there....

That is much better IMHO - the more acute angle gives it a much more dramatic look as does the B+W

Hey, kisu! Thanks a bunch. I've only been here a year this month. A year and a few months ago I literally had never held a DSLR in my hand and couldn't even turn the thing on. Seriously. For a while I got frustrated, threw (ever so gently ) my camera down and gave up, thinking I will never learn this; it's too hard. But, reason set in, I came back, and I've worked hard at it, but the lights are coming on (little overexposed or underexposed much of the time -- but, hey, that's okay...)

You're off to a great start -- post another one soon.

So true. I appreciate the fact that people are honest and will tell you the truth, but the greatest majority also find something honest to encourage us newbs with. My first photo was an African violet shot in the harshest light you ever saw. Frog (and others) honestly pointed that out, but also graciously said "I see you have an eye for beauty." -- or something to that effect. That helped a lot.

So, now, a year later, I can see a lot of mistakes that I make or others make -- still don't necessarily know how to fix it -- but seeing it is the first step.

With this motorcycle, I still don't have that crystal clear clarity that I see others achieve with comparable equipment, but still I am pleased -- for now.

I have zero PP skills, so you are way ahead of the game there!! So much to learn....

Happy Clicking and I'm looking forward to another photo from you soon!

    Re: Dirty Dirt Bike

I really like this shot Paula. It has a lot of distracting stuff around it, but the angle and title on the original creates a larger than life feeling, almost like it's in your living room. The second shot is better isolated from its surroundings, though the angle is funner on the first.

I am thinking this one might be good to mask off and paste into another background -- but what?

    Re: Dirty Dirt Bike

Thank you, GB1. I see your point - and agree. It would make it a whole lot more fun if this were pasted in maybe a BBQ joint for instance -- or next to the groom in a wedding chapel -- the mall -- something unexpected...

Caring for my dad does make for challenging subject matter -- which is good -- makes you REALLY have to think about technique and composition

But, alas -- I haven't the foggiest clue how to do that. I saw a "scene" created with Photo..Chop which was designed using components from many different sources. It was so cool. Maybe one day...

    Paula,

I sent the congrats as a PM so no one would know about it :mad2: :mad5: now I have lost my status as a HERBY HUSKER BOOSTER. :cryin:  : It just goes to show that you can not trust a Boomer Sooner, as far as you throw the Schooner  So I may as well make complements public

Your photographs and posts indicate a great eye, and gobs of talent, you have spent a lot of time learning the art, and improving your skills, as indicated by the changes and your acknowledgements in Dirty Dirt Bike.

Now if we can just EDUCATE YOU ABOUT FOOTBALL, Good Luck on your Bowl Offer this weekend. Go BIG RED Beat the Longhorns. NO:cornut: NO.
