    Re: Take a look see

    Welcome to the forums.
I had to study that first pic for some time to find out there was a canoe in it.
The others are ok for composition but I think you need to work on the b/w and bring out more tones and make them sharper with more contrast.
Did you shoot in b/w or convert? What was your post processing?

it was in b/w. how would you bring out the contrast. i dont do any editing to them. the way they come out is the way i post them i dont really like alter them as it changes the way you see it through the eye piece. any ideas?

I really don't see this as a valid position. Did you see these as black & white in the viewfinder or were they altered with the camera's computer? - TF

They make contrast filters for your lenses.

In my limited darkroom experience, we used them in the enlargers. Doing global (instead of local fine tuning) changes on the computer is basically the same except quicker, cheaper, and allows you a lot more flexibility to the images to your satisfaction. I'm not trying to change your mind or flame you for being a "purist", just a different viewpoint.

    Re: Take a look see

My suggestion, if you don't really want to use the *most excellent* B&W film emulator that's built into the software you already own (effects>film effects>black & white film) is to go out and purchase a set of six filters: red, yellow, green, cyan, blue, & magenta and learn how to use them in the proper ratios for the scene you're shooting, and VOILA! your B&W shots will have amazing vibrancy and contrast rather than looking flat.

(I'm currently taking a fantastic course on lighting, and some of the things being covered are related to the physics of light, and why colors look like one specific shade or another, as an aside, the instructor has been cluing us in to how photographers used to create photoshop effects before photoshop was invented - and most of what we do in photoshop now, can indeed be done in the camera, if you are creative enough, though at times it's substantially more difficult)

That said, the shot of the kids is the best of the set - nice shot.
