    Bad lens ?

I'm not impressed with this lens.
Up to about 25m it's pretty good.
But at greater distances it seems unable to focus accurately.
Seems that sharpness falls off dramatically with distance.

Full frame from about 150-200m distance, and crop of centre of frame.
    Corrected for CA in Lightroom.

    Re: Bad lens ?

    Paul,

That's a good question. My copy seems a bit better than your's. However, I'm not 100% happy with it for some reason. Usually either I like a lens or I don't. I just can't seem to "make friends" with this lens. It isn't the best to focus and I delete many more than I keep because of softness. I could say too that it's at the longer end; however, I can personally chalk part of that up to my slight camera shake problem which almost never shows up except with a long zoom.

I got my refurbished $119 Olympus 40-150 lens and 4/3 adapter today and will try it out this weekend and compare the two. I figure I'll keep this one if the IQ is decent just for the price. I'm not counting the adapter cost as part of the lens price because I will most likely use it for other Oly 4/3 lenses.

If you really like the lens, would you consider exchanging it - maybe you'd be happy with another copy?

    What lens, Paul?

I found the 40-150mm Olympus Four Thirds lens very hard to use with the E-P1. It was very hit and miss with focus. I need to try it out with the E-620 and see if it's any better there. Image quality seemed pretty good, when it focused. It's not as good as the 70-300, but then again, it's half the size and weight.

I believe he is referring to the Panasonic 45-200mm - the one I also have. The good thing is you don't need an adapter with this lens.......however....
