So much is riding on your tire (Warning - minor nudity)

Took this several years ago but don't remember ever posting it for review.

    Is it too silly?

Silly? maybe. Looks like you caught her going to the bathroom.

hmm.. i dont really understand the composition. she is sitting inside a huge farm tire? and half naked? hmm... i dont really get it. and her face looks a little like shes giving birth? and possibly too much has been done to this picture, enhancing wise... tone it down maybe?

Yeah, it does have sort of an ad hoc look. Part of the issue was that I couldn't think of a good pose (on the fly) for this prop (matter of fact, still can't). I added the effect to make it look a little surreal, maybe in desperation .. who knows.

    Thanks for your comments.

As Sushigaijin so eloquently put it  This isn't a particularly flattering pose and looks more like a voyeur shot than a pre-planned pose. I think if it were me, I'd try standing the tire up and shooting her through it (even if I had to wedge it against the wall for stability)

I really like the processing a lot - except for the posterized-looking blowouts on her body. Not quite sure about the pose. It works compositionally and aesthetically for me, but sushi's observation got the wheels turning - dammit. Maybe if you tried a subtle variation?

On another note, I don't get why an image has to make sense logically or rationally for it work on an aesthetic level, but that's me.

Ad hoc? Wasn't he in the Beasties?

Yes, Sushigaijin has a way with words .. Not a bad idea on standing up the tire, though I would never do it as this place was slated for knock down and you never know what's under these things - snakes, etc come to mind (actually, she shouldn't even be where she is for that reason ... ).

"On another note, I don't get why an image has to make sense logically or rationally for it work on an aesthetic level, but that's me."

Totally agree! I think a shot can be artistic and not be logical or rational. Indeed, it may be better for an artistic shot not to be either of these things. But there's also tons of shots that try to be artistic, or claim to be, but are definitely not.. some are just - as Michael Jackson might has said - bad.

Btw, that effect was Corel PhotoPaint's Local Equalization effect. To me it looks a lot like HDR w/o the need for extra frames
