    Wasp (or Hornet?) with kill

Big guy snatched this bug (nymph of some sort?) right in front of me.

Not great shots, wind was whipping him around a lot.

I do believe that is a parasitic wasp who stings the prey and burrow the ground to lay an egg on it... food for the egg that hatches

Okay... I can't decide whether I think that's gross or cool!

Well its less environmental damage than a refrigerator.
I'd say it must be one of those wasps too. Far as I know bees only gather pollen and aren't meat of vegetable eaters.

    Interesting shots.

The wasp will probably paralyze (but not kill) the caterpillar, then lay egg/s in it. Not a nice way to die... being eaten alive from the inside out.

    Okay, veering more towards gross!

It wasn't a caterpillar though, it was some sort of nymph, the ones that I always think look like itty bitty grasshoppers
