    Red Sky Seascape

I took this some time back but have never been certain that it works. Can I have some feed back - I normally do birds and wildlife and am pretty uncertain when it comes to this sort of thing.
    Thanks

    Re: Red Sky Seascape

A more pronounced silhouette at the bottom would certainly help provide a foundation for the red sky, what is there does something, but I think there could be more. How much of the sky is actually red and how much is a white balance hue? In any event, the color does look good and convincing. This shot could work very well as an imposed backdrop, to silhouette other things, etc. Definitely a keeper.

I agree with Anbesol, the top is amazing, but I wish there was a more prominent silhouette at the bottom.

Thanks for the comments - I really appreciate this. Please comment on this version that was shot approximately the same time but without the zoom ie 50mm vs 210mm. As I recall the sky was still a little brighter with this shot. I think the composition is poor but would like your feedback again.
    Cheers

    Re: Red Sky Seascape

The shore definitely needs to be kicked out of that last one. Tighten it up quite a bit so its halfway in between the two shots. Would also make for a cool panorama, framing the boat in the left side of the composition. Thats my take anyway.

I see youre also using the A700, and that 50mm was at f/4, max of f/4 too. Is that the 24-50 f/4 you're shooting with, or the 35-70 f/4?

Hi Anbesol - thanks again for the valuable feedback. I think Im going to do more of this. As I am leaving today for a month in Namibia, landscape is going to feature high on the photo agenda and hopefully I will get the compositions right. Regrettably the A700 and all its kit were stolen in a burglary a while back and I have replaced with an a900. But to answer your question the shot was taken with the 35-70 as I recall. Thanks again.

Anbesol - sorry - gave you an incorrect answer - just went back to my notes. Those pics were all taken using the sigma 50-500 zoom f4 - f6.3. Sorry about the incorrect assumption.

    Re: Red Sky Seascape

Both have very powerful color. I like the first a little better, more like an abstract painting. The second is nice but you have to correct that tilt on the horizon. The shoreline works for me, but there is so little that it seems like a tease.

Nice work overall - I think both are like paintings, where you're painting with light
