    The American Dream

    - Hello all.

This is a shot I took yesterday. I actually found another photographer shooting this scene and I asked him about the type of filter he was using after he was wrapping up. He ended up showing me his pro-folio and suggested that I try to take a shot or two in the same place. This is New York City off the FDR bike path ( http://tiny.cc/KZNhP about where the letter "C" on the map) and there is a bikeway that have puddles that accumulate after a rain, and that is what where the reflection comes in the shot.

. I just wanted to see what other photographers thought because I am not very experienced in photography. Also if you are ever in New York after it rains this is a cool shot!

    Re: The American Dream

I like the subject and light and tones a lot.
A couple of negatives for me are the tilt to the left,(something I'm learning to watch for) and that the silhouette subjects are so centered. That part isn't really a big deal and it would be hard to get them placed withing the composition otherwise.
At first I couldn't figure out your description of the place because the puddle reflections blended into the river so well but now I see it is a walkway along the river.
    Keep Shooting!

    A++ on composition.
    Love the shot
You could try some PP to bring out the buildings more.
Just try not to wash out the wonderful moody sky.
    Look through a glass eye.
    Give it a few tries.

    Re: The American Dream

Great work, Brian and welcome to the forum. I am in New York and have been near this spot but usually under the overpass. I'll have to give that a look see.
I like the composition and the exposure etc. I think a better moment with perhaps fewer persons in the shot would be more effective, or perhaps just a couple looking over the scene.
The soft focus and smoothness of the reflection is lovely and really makes this shot.
    Worthy of a sticky!
Thanks for showing and looking forward to seeing more.

    Brian,

What a wonderful shot. The people add another dimension.Colors are terrific, converging lines of the bridges are perfect. Most worthy of the Sticky. Congratulations. I will enjoy looking at this photo for the next week.

I really like this. The clouds add drama and the reflections are great. Good shot!

    Re: The American Dream

well done!! the converging bridges bring your eye into the center of the image where the "meat" is found....the pedestrians...and that great reflective puddle adds a worldly feel and a nice balance to the overall effect. the foreground also doubles that great sky with all of those dark, somber clouds that set the tone. good work! congrats on your featured photo!
