Beyonce' and the cover of GC Magazine

Hopefully this is not a trademark violation; magazine rack in a public place (train from York to Edinburgh). It looked interesting to me.

Re: Beyonce' and the cover of GC Magazine

This is really an unusual shot which I really, really like for that very reason plus that it is well composed.
I can't find any negatives. Love how the eyes are looking through that grill.
Looking again, there might be a bit of an orange cast on the magazine cover due to the background color.

    Robusto/Frog:

Thanks so much for the positive feedback. This was one of those moments where the shot is just waiting to happen. All I did was center her eyes in the holes and shoot away. Thanks again.

Re: Beyonce' and the cover of GC Magazine

    I love this!

Tell the truth - did you move it so the eyes were looking through the holes? It wouldn't make it any less awesome of a photo :-)

A little criticism, since this is the Photo Critique forum and that's what we're here for...

I'm not entirely sure. But I think the color may be just a distraction here. If you haven't already tried converting it to a black-and-white, I think you should. I also think just a bit more contrast and brightness might help. I'd like to really see it snap!

    John,

Thanks so much. I really appreciate your comments to this photo. I moved the magazine a smidge; the eyes were already pretty well lined up, they just were not perfectly centered. I was equally concerned with the center of the nose and mouth so that the entire face was equal through the pattern of the rack. I never considered a bw of this, but will certainly take that under advisement and post. Thanks again.

I like the colour, but maybe it could do with a slight rotate to the right to level up the holes.
I think it's probably from perspective, rather than rotation, but it only needs smidge of correction.
Then that repeating geometric pattern of holes won't be just off level.

Indeed it is, though I think too much of the non-"mesh" is showing at the top. Maybe you can crop some off..

    GB,

Thanks for the suggestion. Just to clarify, by "non" mesh, do you mean the wall behind? I have cropped off a bit already but thought I should leave just a sliver to show, or help to show, that the magazine is in a rack on the wall.

Dave - Yes the wall behind. I understand what you did and why you did it. Something seems like it is off, though.. Paul may be right on the rotation thing. This shot is one of the disturbing mind twisters !! I mean that in a good way.

    GB,

Thanks for the clarification. I haven't had the time to sit and play with this over the past few days. But over the weekend I will. I need to at least fix the tilt and experiment with the B/W suggestion. That idea never entered my mind. I rather see things as if created by Pixar so B/W rarerly seems like an alternative.

    Thanks again.

Re: Beyonce' and the cover of GC Magazine

CF, I like this a lot! Personally, I like it as is and would not crop or rotate. I feel like I want to see this as a sort of random snap with some symetry off and things not quite lined perfectly.
i like the color in this, although b&w could look good too. I think the only thing I would suggest is to adjust the white balance. It seems too warm as if there were tungsten lights illuminating this. An auto color correction seemed to do the job well.
    Well done, love it.

Hey! That's pretty cool! Good eye! For some reason I suddenly backflashed to Silence of the Lambs looking at her eyes peering through the holes! (me and my love of horror flicks) LOL That's awesome!

Thank you very much for the kind words. I had not thought of Silence of the Lambs, but I see what you mean. No pun intended. Thanks again.
