    Some new night shots

hi, i signed up here a while ago but don't use my computer a whole lot, so chances are you've never seen me on here before. anyways, i've been taking pictures at night lately and figured i'd share a few with everyone. let me know what you think.

and after i uploaded these to a hosting site i realized i probably sized them down way too much. they should look alright though, at least enough to get the idea. thanks in advance for any feedback.

First, welcome to the forums and glad you are doing some posting.
Second, please read the guidelines for posting in the critique forum:

    Photo Critique Forum Guidelines

especially the part about posting one photo at a time unless its a 'which one' post.

The first 3 look quite good with good composition and exposure. The blown out lights aren't bad and don't distract.
Four and five don't have enough subject matter to make them interesting to me though that may be just my taste.
The phone booth is pretty good but something I can't put my finger on leaves me with only a glance at the photo and no interest or feeling to want to look more.

    Re: Some new night shots

thanks for the feedback. and i probably should have read the guidelines for posting pics first. the 5 pics a day rule makes sense, but 1 pic per topic? it seems to me that it would make things easier if you could post all 5 pics in 1 topic. that way there would be that many less topics to sort through. anyways, thanks again.

oh, and they were taken in Nelson, BC.

I really enjoy the picture of the fair. The speed setting was perfect! I also like the first photo and the repetition it has.

    Re: Some new night shots

I never got the idea it was one pic per topic. Just five pics per day, and if they were all in one post, so be it.

I guess it's time I revisit the guidelines myself.

ps. Whenever I post here for critique, my stuff gets no attention whatsoever. Maybe I SHOULD post five separate threads in order to get more attention.

Welcome to the forum. First off, frog is right about the guide lines in that we ask that you post one photo per thread (Critique forum).
No harm done, we are glad you found us here.
I think your compositions are all very good and i like the subject matter especially for night scenes. I especially like the last one of the phone booth. Everything is working together to make this an eye pleasing and intriguing scene, including the telephone wires above. The diagonal lines of the wires cutting across the slightly still illuminated sky adds to the overall look for me.
Well done, looking forward to more.

    Re: Some new night shots

again, thank you to everyone for the comments. these were a few of my favourite night shots i've taken. and actually, the phonebooth shot was at the top of my favourite shots; so it's nice to see that other people like it as well.

and i was wondering how and why this topic got stickied. is it because the phonebooth shot was the featured photo?

    Re: Some new night shots

I like them all, except for the crosswalk picture. It lacks any interesting subjects. The others all have some interesting use of the light, but my favorite by far is the telephone booth. Perhaps it's part because I've been a Phone Phreak (Phone hacker/enthusiast) since I was 15 years old, but the glow around the booth really makes it stand out. It almost takes on some of the characteristics you'd see in an HDR image. Very nice.
