    The Stork

When this fellow landed, a matter of feet away, he didn't know I was there. It only took a few seconds, he nearly fainted, and then flew off. I'm not sure who got a bigger thrill.

Great quick captures and I really like the second one as you left some nice space on the right hand side for this guy to fly into.

These guys just started showing up in NH in the past week or two.

    susaan/Tracer:

Thanks very much for leaving the comments. The space on the right, of the second picture, was a complete accident. It just turned out that way. Thanks again.

    Re: The Stork

I like that the eye is in very sharp focus in both images.

I am not sure I like either image more than the other, they are both pretty sweet. Make a nice framed pair of images.

No way to do it but; the first image might be better without the reeds between the camera and the bird. I'd probably crop the second image from the top to place the bird more off-center in the frame.

I don't think the space in front of the bird in the second image was a complete accident. You've been shooting long enough to automatically try to compose correctly even for a snap shot.
    No, I DON'T need that.

I think you did a really good job on both shots and I can imagine from looking at both of them exactly what you said that happened.

Thank you for sharing these with us.

Penny: Thanks for the kind words.
MB: What an achievement that would be when composition is instinctive. I will go with your suggestion.

    Thanks again.

    Great shots both CF!
You probably already know, but just in case - this fellow is a Great Blue Heron, substantially better looking than the Stork wich has a head that sort of resembles a vulture with a long beak and a white body.

    jetrim,

Thanks for the ID on this fellow as I had no idea. There is a pure white of similar size and appearance that lives on this lake. I hope to snap a photo of that some day.

    Thanks again.

The white one you describe sounds like a snowy Egret, a bit more rare than this guy, but looks nearly identical except for the pure white feathers.
