    not a heron ?

    Looked this up and it seems to be a Reddish Egret, not a heron at all.
    I love the ruffled feathers during the preening shake.

    I might be framing a few of my shots then - but not the Ospreys.
    Blown up from a flyspeck I can just see the eyestripe that identifies them.

    You might notice I've been posting all my nature shots from last week, trying to get/confirm IDs.

    Thes are Reddish Egrets. I call them "Drunken Sailor" birds, as their hunting antics can be quite entertaining.

    Yes I've noticed. I have enjoyed looking thru all the photos you've posted lately in N&W. There're great.
    I don't always comment since I'm still learning bird ID myself.

    Very nice reddish egret; was this taken in the UK? Curious about the flora in the photo. . .
