    Powershot a590 IS

canon powershot a590 IS. I'm going to purchase this camera. What is the biggest memory I can get for this? It takes SD cards I imagine?

    Memory Cards

Hey, Ampz - Glad I was able to help you make a decision!

I checked the specs on the Canon A590 IS (http://www.photographyreview.com/mfr....aspx?TabID=3). It takes SD and SDHC cards. SDHC are "high capacity" SD cards. They start at 4 GB so I doubt there's a limit. Since it's only an 8-megapixel camera, I'd recommend looking for the sweet spot for memory cost. That used to be 2 GB, but it might be 4 GB now. I don't like having cards that are too large as that increases the risk of losing a lot of data if a card gets lost or corrupted. So I'd suggest buying two 2 GB cards. That will be plenty of memory for you and it should be pretty cheap. A few months ago there were lots of deals on 2 GB SD card two-packs. See if you can find one of those deals. And stick to brand names like Lexar and SanDisk. I have seen plenty of posts here about no-name memory cards dying and losing images.

Are you saying that this camera is going to be the one you use to make the profile photo you'll be using to troll MySpace for chicks? You do know that the camera phone is the preferred tool for that kind of low-quality, arms-length self-portrait, right?

That camera will accept both SD and SDHC cards. I got a PowerShot A470 with a 8GB SDHC card, and I love it. I can take over 2500 pictures on the highest res setting.

I would use either rechargeables or Lithium AA batteries.
Ordinary AA batteries are cheaper than Lithium, but are far less powerful.
Good in an emergency though, you can get Duracell almost everywhere.

I use Lithium Energizer batteries in my camera, and they work great.
