    Birch Grove

Did a walkabout this weekend with my XSi, and found this amazing stand of trees that presented a photo opportunity that I could not resist. These pics were taken with my new 50mm f/1.8 II lens - and I was quite happy with the results.

Yeah the 50mm f/1.8 is a surprisingly good performer. It works nicely as a "nature portrait" lens as a short telephoto on a 1.6x crop camera.

It also performs reasonably well as a macro with a short extension tube. As long as your subject doesn't mind be being right up against you. Or is it the other way around?

    What's a Loupe for anyway?
