    More Snowys

Heres a few from last week same bird on both captures . Again with some PS because of bland sky. I have been trying to up my photoshop skills lately. I go by this spot every chance i get . One of these days i will get a good sky and ideal lighting

    Re: More Snowys

Saw these in the gallery and followed the link so I could get some more details on them. They had a painterly look that made me suspicious. I think the owls look really, really good. I'm super impressed with the exposure. But the background just doesn't look right and I think it damages the credibility of the images. If you just want a pretty picture, that's fine. They're your photos. But I would prefer to see the originals, without the sky manipulations. Using Photoshop for optimization is fine. But when you start adding compositional elements like clouds, then you're doing illustration. It's not really photography anymore. Like I said, that's ok. But some of us will judge the photos in a different way.

Now can I see one without the manipulations?

I like the photoshop version, very nice! I'd be happy to get one as good as the origional myself, however the photoshop additions really work for me. Nice work.

I don't know what to say. I do like the Photoshopped version, but then again, it still isn't really what you saw. But, the owl is still the same. Whatever, great job on a beautiful raptor.

Lol i don't get it Mike, all i did here was post some photoshoped images just to see what i could accomplish with CS3 and its coming off as if i did something Taboo. I was kinda proud of what i did with a few photos that would have been trashed & deleted because i had totally missed these shots. I know the images are not what i saw in camera but more of what i was wishing for he he. Hell i even got Photo-John to come into this section of the forum and give me a lecture Oh well i guess ill just stick to as shot photos when posting here

Please don't be defensive about critiques. I (and others) post photos to have photographers with much more experience tell me what they see so that I can learn to see. Several people have taken the time to say what they see. Appreciate it or they'll quit. – TF

EDIT: BTW - I originally opened your post and caught my breath on the first photo. SOOC, PPed, or a painting - I think it's beautiful.

We used to have a large one that would hang around the rail yard I work in but I haven't seen it in a few years now. I used to see them now and then on the way to work but again, not in the past few years.

    Re: More Snowys

Knight, you misunderstood me. I do like what you did with the background. You did a top notch job at photoshopping in the sky. However, I'm somewhat of a purist. I prefer to see photos as what they really were when they were shot. I have nothing against cloning out an occasional branch, but that is about as far as I go. Maybe I'm too lazy when it comes to the computer or maybe I like the challenge of always trying to take the "perfect" shot. Maybe, I hate to always wonder if that photo was photoshopped or not. Nowadays, unless specified, a person doesn't really know.

Everyone has different opinions, and this is just mine.

I just taught i should explain what my intent was when posting these images and that was just to show what i could do in PS thats all.

If you had totally "missed" these shots, even an excellent job of photoshopping couldn't have made them presentable. The first photo was captured just fine. It just had a featureless and boring background.

I think you did a great job on these Knight. They have a very artistic feel to them, and I really like it.
