Red face Just in need of some pointers

    Hi Everyone,

I am trying to improve my photography I just really started and wanted to know what you all think of some of my shoots. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    1) That is a great flower but the out of focus bit in the front takes away from the spectacular purple lines. Perhaps if you had cut the excess away with a knife before shooting.

    2) Nice colors, nice composition, nice subject. I can't tell if it is sharply focused but it looks good.

    3) It would be ok but #2 is a much better image of the same subject.

    4) Good subject, colors and composition but it seems a bit dark and needs more depth of field so the bird and the flower are sharply focused. Again, a good place for fill flash.

    5) Looks like you added a touch of processing to try to improve a so-so image. Didn't work.

#2 is the winner here for me and I'll note that it is much easier to critique if you post one picture at a time.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    hey amahoogany,

    Welcome to PR btw.

My favourites are your second shot of the butterfly with it's wings nicely open and the very attractive red plant. The red also contrasts with the greens very well. The butterfly's position in the picture is also very good and not too centred like some of the other shots. Try and not centre your subject in the frame, that will also give you more dynamic images.

I also like your gorilla shot. Very good look from him. The vignetting is a little too dark here though. Maybe a little less dark.
