And it won't be my last =)

***EDIT*** And it seems I forgot to do a white balance correction on the 2nd image. Do I need to correct it?

Very nice shots, though I think both need sharpening runs... did you use MF for these?

#1's colours definitely look nicer, check the patches of sky through the background tree branches. #2 has too much yellow.

I've seen a couple, but haven't got a shot yet.

That's one colourful bird! Good catch, very nicely positioned I think focus might not be quite on the birds eyes - as Alex suggests, try some USM...

they lost a bit of sharpness in jpeg conversion but they were soft to begin with. These are my ice breaker shots for the year. They'll get better =) I used AF with a MF adjustment. I was at 500 mm hand held in the cold wind while being chased by my 3 year old. Difficult shooting conditions... but fun regardless =)

    Thanks for looking

Nice shots, 500mm and hand held is amazing. Finding a moment to shoot while watching a 3 yr old is even more amazing.

That is quite a feat. However, I believe they would have turned out sharper if you had upped the ISO to 400. This would have given you a 1/800 sec. instead of 1/200 sec.

I totally agree. I am still kicking myself for not adjusting for a faster shutter when I had the opportunity. Next time I will not make that same mistake. You can certainly tell who has not had a camera in their hands for months.
