    Black Oyster Catcher

Also photo'ed some black oystercatchers yesterday.

Just think this one is different from the most you've seen:

    Coming out of a corner:

Not a good head angle here:

    Do birds fall??

Taken with 200-400 + 1.4TC. No sunshine but they were out in the open by the sea and so easier to shoot than the owl that is hiding in the woods.

Nice images of a bird I've not seen before.

The first one made me smile. That is the mental image I would have as I, and my fellow cave-men guys, made our desperated dash away from the 35' tall prehistoric beast

    What's a Loupe for anyway?

    Talking Re: Black Oyster Catcher

AgingEyes, great images!! I had to go and look in my "Field Guide to Birds of North America" to find out about this one. We don't get these on the prairies (obviously) - no oysters and other things it likes.

    Cheers,

That is one interesting looking bird! Different poses too. I like. How large are these guys? I can't tell from the photos.

Large enough to send Loupey running

Seriously, it's about 17.5' in length, 32" wingspan, and about 1.4lb in weight according to Simthsonian Field Guide to the Birds of North America.
