The light isn't the best for a landscape.

I wish you had shot this from a much lower position to take advantage of the calm water and to get something stronger in the foreground.
    No, I DON'T need that.

I agree! I took this one from the other direction to add something in the foreground, it think it is a little better. The light was not that great, so i had to make a couple of adjustments on this one.

    Thanks, for the comments!

Right, the second composition is much better but the light wasn't helping you any that day.
    No, I DON'T need that.

Second one is my favorite. I like your composition well enough in the first, but for me, the colors are too blah.

I like the first one alot. It shows a lot of mood.
It reminds me of camping and waking up in the early morning.

The second image is too congested and a little out of focus. It triggers no emotion for me.

Singletracklovr: that is funny you say that, when i was going through these pictures that is exactly what i thought of. I reminded me of having a cup of coffee in the morning after camping while everything is still quite calm.

    Thanks for the coments!

Re: Late afternoon on the river

I'm with Bob on this one. The first one captures a mood. It might have been better with something in the foreground, or if you would have kneeled down to take the shot (and got more reflection off the water), but the shadow on the foreground and the light on the background give it pretty good depth and contrast. The angle of the river leads you to the background.
I'm a firm believer of putting people in the foreground of these types of shots. Someone sitting along the river, fishing or a bright blue or orange tent in the foreground, would have told a story, added greatly to the depth and possible would have made this cover quality.
