    First Snow Fall

We got our first major snowfall of the season, and the snow is now here to stay !
This image, viewed through my front door, sorta caught my eye.
I think it might also look good in B&W ?
Your critique and time are most welcome.

For a minute there I thought it was B&W, sorry, don't think B&W will change that much. Might have been a better shot if you got closer to the decking so you could measure the snow in the shot and see how the snow rises from the house as it goes further out (if you get what I mean?). Good luck with the snow this season. S
    Shootme...

Wow.. sort of an optical illusion or something. I really, really like the design the structure makes. I don't really like the tree in there however :cryin: you could clone it out w/o spending too much time, as the background is simple.

Snow shots like this are magical. There's a simplicity about them that can't be matched. We're expecting a bit of snow in the mountains here this coming week -- I may try to sneak off work 1/2 day and get some pix

I think I know what your getting at shootme, but being a fresh new snowfall there was no rise beyond the deck. You get an idea of how deep the snow is along the spaces in the decking. The shot was primarily intended to show the geometric pattern the new snow had created on the deck boards at the various levels, along with the architectural features of the deck. Appreciate your input !

Get the chainsaw Greg ! :yikes:
My feeling was the tree sorta adds a focal point for all that 2x6 cedar ?
It was simply the pattern on the tri-level deck with the fresh snow, combined with the geometric design of the deck that just said "take my picture".
I gotta concur with the magic and simplicity that can be found in some snow shots.

i never commented on this, but i understood the geometric subject/purpose and thought the tree should be cropped out personally.

    Re: First Snow Fall

I generally tend to shy away from abstracts because of what happened with this shot. I stared at it trying to figure out what in the world it was -- my brain could only understand the tree and the snow. It wasn't until I read a post describing "the decking" that I could make sense of it. And once I was past the pain (to me) of figuring out what it was, then I could appreciate the pattern quality of the photo.

Therefore, I agree with you that the tree should stay...however I wonder about the possibility of re-composing the shot with the tree more to one side or another?
