I think the sky and flower are over saturated.
Also I don't believe you over exposed enough to get details in the shadowed areas unless you wanted them to remain shadowed.
Without reading whats said I liked the shot straight off, the bold color is nice and the sunflower has character. The hole in the leaf bugs me (no pun intended). S

How's the song go? "She's my one flower ,she's the sun flower of my heart"? I like the picture. BUT
Duh, I did a search for "HDR" and got nothing to help me know what that means.
I'm guessing it has something to do with "high def"

gotrocks......hdr=high definition resolution. It is done by taking 3 or more pictures at different resolutions and then combining them to bring out details in each pic. Usually one at 0, one at +2, one at -2. You can take as many as you like at varying stops.
They can be combined in photoshop but most use a program called photomatix.
You can then have higlights in the shadows and not have blown highlights.
I'm not a big fan of HDR, but i think this one came out fine. I like the composition. It has a whimsical and almost pop-art feel about it. the overly saturated colors add to the light hearted style of the photograph.
Nice stuff.
This is cool. I need to learn HDR. I shoot for publication, so I bump the saturation and contrast just a bit in my camera, so that by the time my images are printed, they still retain high contrast and saturation (each process toward publication looses just a little).
Can someone tell me where I can learn all the intricacies of HDR?
Congratulations on the sticky! Well deserved. – TF

Thanks a bunch, Frog. I downloaded the Photomatix trial software, and I know just the scene in a cypress swamp to get the bracketed exposures and give this a try. Then I will send it to one of the magazines to see if it comes across alright and they can use it. If so, I'll buy the software.
I had a bad experience once with an editing software that "sharpened" my images and looked great on the computer, but when I sent them to a magazine, what they got had a heavy green tint to the whole scene.
The problem with some of this technology is the recipient must have an ability to read it as well.
Old Clicker and Frog thank you for that information. I've been using Photo Delux Home and have Photoshop Elements 2.0 but have not spent much time with it.
I think my new camera will let me take 3 exposures at once, I'll try it out and see what I can do. Thanks again and "Happy Holidays" to you and yours. Norris
Congrats on the sticky and very well deserving of it. I love everything about it. I think it works really well. Most HDR's I see make me cringe a little bit, but this one is done very well. Well done.

Barry - I think it's very successful. The richness is intense (almost too much) but it is very sharp and works quite well, IMO. Plus, I love eating their seeds
