    Re: Speaking of old Barns

I don't really love the foreground and would like to see a shot with a wide angle right past that grouping of three small trees on the right...Also, the sky is kind of boring and less is more with regard to it. My last nitpick is that the horizon ends up level with the barn's roof... It's a very good subject though and the old, leafless trees add a ton to it. I like it but I think a reshoot would do a ton for this photo.

Thanks much for the feedback. Luckily this barn is only about a mile away so I can go back and try the things you are suggesting.

Go back with the widest angle lens you have and shoot every angle you can find that looks somewhat promising (get close up, and also farther away, but closer than in this shot). At least one angle should turn out something good. Good luck!

I also think this could benefit from a tighter wide angle shot and you may be able to pull it right out of this photo - crop down to half of what's left of the barn, crop the top down to the tree tops (center) and bring the bottom up to where the tall grass starts. This should give a more pleasing "upper third" sky, "center third" background, "lower third" foreground, with the subject resting in the left third vertically.

I also think Dwaugh gave you some great advice about shooting every angle you can :wink5:

I really like this photograph, if you cropped out the top of it to where the top of the trees start I think that would really help it. I get an artsy feel from it, I like.

Thanks for the great feedback. I definately have some things to try. Right now I have to finish up the poster for my son's high school swim team. But after that it will be back to the fun of shooting.

    Re: Speaking of old Barns

I'm with dwaugh, I usually take a bunch of shots of a subject just to see if they look good on screen and start to learn from that (benefit of digital). I see a nice fence behind the trees on the left which could add something if you go there again to re-shoot. By the way I sometimes go to the property owner and ask if I can walk around to take shots. Cheers S.
