    Back to work!

Well I worked Tuesday night shooting swimming and wrestling. But the real test was Friday and Saturday with the State Football finals at Lucas Oil Stadium. The photo below is one from the finals. All five games were close, no blowouts  But the 5A game between the "big" schools was the game of the century as Carmel led 33-14 with 6:04 left. Center Grove moved the ball down the field and scored then recovered the onside kick and then they scored again and recovered another onside kick and once again they scored. When Carmel got the ball back they had 50 seconds left and trailed 36-33. Carmel couldn't move the ball and CG pulled off the biggest comeback in finals history in front of the largest crowd in history of 35,000 for a high school game in Indiana. In the regular season these two played and CG won 48-41. It was a great way to kick off the finals in the new stadium!

    And I survived too

    Surviving is good, John.
But I wish you could say it sent better than that !
How are you finding it after your enforced time off, swinging those lenses?

Sounds like you had your plate pretty full John. Glad you survived that marathon of games and events. Hope to see more outstanding images like the one above. Good to hear from you.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    Re: Back to work!

Well it's was a really tough weekend Paul. The left arm was a bit sore on day 1 with only 2 of the games, my back was another story :mad2: it hurt! And after the 3 games on Saturday it was so sore I couldn't sit at the computer and go through photos, good thing they weren't needed until Monday afternoon. The drive home was tough too, I had been on my feet since 10am and got to the car at 10:45pm The worst part driving was my right foot hurt like crazy and my back as well. When I got home the last thing I wanted to do was get out of the car..... I didn't want to stand up. Oh well, I got through it all, barely.... I did however get some great action though.... just like the players.... play through the pain!
Oh, the heart did OK too But couldn't the IHSAA have something other than greasy chicken for food?

Thanks OT, good to be back ( or around for that matter)

I can relate on the pains for sure! But given the state of the food at most state events I've covered, it's probably more of a miracle that you survived that!!

Thats because I didn't eat the stuff, just seeing the grease gave me chest pains so I ate chips and dip..... not much better but at least they weren't dripping grease...

Good to see you're back at it, John. Sounds like you didn't exactly ease back into things; that'll get ya every time. Excellent shot too, btw, and man, 35,000 for an HS game?! WOW!

    Re: Back to work!

Thanks Brad, apparently the layoff didn't hurt the timing for the most part.
Not sure if you remember but I went back to work 12 days after shoulder surgery a few years back too  so the doc couldn't take a joke , I just can't stay still, and I can't pay the bills if I'm not workin

That crowd was great, and it was loud on the field, I can just immagin how loud it is at Colts games there with another 30,000 in there. The reason it was such a big crowd was the new stadium and the schools are only 20 minutes away.

That is a ton of people for the State Finals, I went a couple of years ago when it was in the RCA Dome and I think they might have had 2,000 at the most this was also for Single A, too.

    Re: Back to work!

I think they had record crowds for all 5 games, the 1A and 2A games had as many people as the 3A game had! I was pretty surprised by the crowd, but that 5A game was just unreal.

BTW, give me a call when you can.

Thanks Jimmy, it's good to be shooting again, even if it wasn't a long layoff it was enough for me.

First, great capture on that shot John. Your 5A game had to be a great game to watch, let alone being on the sidelines shooting it.

    Re: Back to work!

Thanks Homer and Lori11, they were all great games, but that 5A game was an instant classic. Lori11, lol, yeah, but if I carry food I'll end up either getting mugged by the other hungry photogs or the broke fans in the stands

They would still mug me.... $3 for water and so on, even snacks are breaking the bank for many..... especially photographers.
