    Self Portrait...again...

I would appreciate any C&C on either or both of the two versions. (For those still with me on this, thanks.) - TF

After all the trouble you went to, I amost hate to say it but I like the version w/o the clown inside better. Even with all the negative space the open window creates, it seems to be a stronger image IMHO. It's perfectly suited to a captiion like "window to the soul"

Thanks for the comments. I'm tending to agree with your choices. I think the 'clown' would work at just the perfect amount of visibility, but that is NOT going to work when viewed digitally. Maybe in a Print??? – TF

The one w/ the clown looks like a Stephen King nightmare! Clowns are creepy; I like the one without better.

clowns *starts crying*. i definatly like the one WITHOUT the clown, even with teh blank space. You look more like a ghost in the picture. the clown just doesnt add anything to the picture except to scare me.

Boy, you've done a lot of work on these.
I like them both and hate to say it but think the clown would work without your reflection.

    Re: Self Portrait...again...

I second what the others posted, without clown is much better:

    • Simplifies and draws the eye directly to the face, instead of having the eye go back-and-forth between face/clown.
    • More powerful image, and creates a somewhat dramatic look...?

Love the version w/o the clown... great job!

    Re: Self Portrait...again...

Thanks everyone. I sent the 'without' to be printed.

The brightness thing was frustrating because there was no cure. The real 'work' was in getting the initial reflection, but that was fun and educational. To get the right background, I ended up with my tripod standing full extension on top of three kitchen chairs (+++ for flip down LiveView). Then I had to learn how to focus on where my reflection would be. Then I had to figure out where I needed to be to end up in the right place in the window. Then, on close inspection, I found something inside was visible and had to move it. There was always some reason to go back out and do it again. Also, it was a partly cloudy day so each time I went back out the light was completely different. About 3 hours and 70-some clicks later (I learned early to bracket the exposure + .7) and I had the beginning shot.

Again thanks for the support in my photo that I tried to turn into a career.
