    My Quest In Life

The perfect photograph of a hummingbird. I took a step closer today. Same shot, obviously one is cropped. Hope you like (it) them.

Nice shot CF, the feet are slightly blurred which is all that stops it being perfect. A damn difficult subject Humming birds, I have tried many times and not got anywhere close to your shot. If only they would keep still !!

This is a species where good flash technique can REALLY pay dividends! Consider using a slower shutter speed, more aperture (maybe f/11), and a flash. The flash will freeze the subject (even a hummingbird's wings aren't faster than the speed of light :-)). Try to set up some flowers in a spot where you'll have a clean background.

This is definitely a good image, especially considering the difficulty of the bird to photograph.

I am so envious. I haven't caught any bird on the wing yet, but you've inspired me to start trying. I think I’ll leave hummingbirds for much later. – TF

The bad news is, there is no perfect photograph.

Thank you all for the really terrific comments. Lets me know I am on the right track. I will take your suggestions to heart and give them a try. I hope to score a decent flash this holiday season which should help considerably. Thanks again.
