I keep coming back to this one...

Reminds me of a lot of those inspirational ads. Like a Nike commercial.

I especially like how you selected the depth of field. Your eye is immediately drawn and locked on the rider. Only until you view the picture for a minute or so do you start looking around.

So long as you credit me as the original photographer, go to town with my work. You can't make it any worse.

    A terrific photo,

I am trying to work out why it doesn't work in colour.

This absolutely works. Colors can be a distraction, which is why I like to desaturate alot of my images at times. The tight crop is perfect as the moment you captured. The expressions and the focus point are right. This is a good save.

Yikes, what a scary shot! The fellow looks pretty haggard here, but also determined

The B&W works IMO but I also like the color. The crop also works.

These shots are fun. Keep shootin' em,

If you crop the colour the same I think it could still work, but not as well as the B&W

I love the black and white! It makes it look much grittier, which emphasizes the mud on the guy's face (I'm assuming it's mud...). I definitely think the bright colors in the original detract from the mood.

    Old Clicker,

I love the B/W version. I think it really makes this image. My only observation, and this may be on purpose, I'm still very much a beginner is it looks like the DOF was sort of added in with a little blur? It looks great, but I'm not sure your center subjects arm should still be completely in focus? I think it makes it look more edited and less natural? I think the color version expresses more what is actually going on perhaps? To me, the B/W shows a struggle on the individual and the color (which I think the colors look very good as well) shows more of the competition. Two thumbs up for sure.

Thanks for commenting. No blur added. His left arm came into that sharp focus with a post-sharpening. I think it really shows up because of the strong sun to his left and a little behind shines though the hair just right. (It also wipes out all the detail in his left ear.)

The color version shown in this thread is straight out of the camera. The linked color version is closer to the BW where I removed the course tape, etc.

I hope to get to another CX race next weekend, but may not have the same lens capability.

I really like the crop and B&W conversion of this. You've done well to capture the mood of the moment. It may just be my personal taste, as I don't like editing things out but, I think I would have left the caution tape in. Either way, an excellent shot.

Once I saw your full color version I see what you were saying about the blur. Very neat your camera picked up on just the center biker! After going back over both I vote on the BW version, the green is very bright! Maybe I've been in California too long with no vegetation? Haha...

That green is just too much light. It's actually dark green to brown. I just had to find something that worked to save that totally shot, things-are-turning-dark, my-brain-has-no-oxygen stare. Best part is that after running up this toboggan hill, he has to do a 180, hop on his bike, go down the hill and take a sharp right at the bottom. – TF
