Very nice lighting and composition. I like this one a lot, just as it is. The guy on the left is a bit dark but I don't think it detracts at all.

    I like this a lot.

As the previous poster said....the gentleman on the left is a little dark. I would also prefer a crop with more room on the left.

But those are knits........Your pic makes me want to k now what they were so intent on.

    Well done.

    Re: Three Gentlemen Of Jakarta

True, guys, too dark-dunno if I could have done better in the light-lousey,but will keep trying.
The journalist is bored from hours of speeches.

The Tech. guy spent all afternoon drying out leads with a hair dryer, cos some ditz was asleep, when the rain started.

    The host is almost asleep.

5 mins later, the live music show began, they drowned us in smoke,no good shots of the band-today,I'm off to the pres, palace-hope to get some good ones.

    Re: Three Gentlemen Of Jakarta

other than the dude on teh left, the other two guys are exposed well with a portrait type black background.

let me guess the journalist is on the left, tech in teh middle and the host on the right.

This is very good, susaan. I agree about a little more room on the left and a bit more shadow fill but the lighting is very moody, all have good light on their features and eyes and the moment of them watching the show intently is good. You can easily bring out a little more shadow detail in PP. Great work, susaan.

    An honor,thank you,all.
May,last year when I joined this forum, would not have got that shot-you all deserve credit for the critiques and comments that teach and encourage me.

Now,back to work -the shot had no more room on the left side, when I looked up the file,
-I understand about giving them,"room to look into",but was nervous about missing the shot,in the next frames the line up was gone.
Will be re-editing,after dealing with last night's work.

    Seriously mindblown,thanks very much,all !

    Susaan,

Just stumbled across this and I think the original is wonderful and moody.

One thing you may want to do is to dodge the faces only with just a subtle brightening but keep the moodiness.

It just makes me wonder what their all looking at so intently. (Oh! I should read the text first :lol

    Re: Three Gentlemen Of Jakarta

All I did with the first post was sharpen a bit and add a little highlights-no genius at editing-
    Readingr.,
Think you are right-thanks-will have to get Photoshop back,
(Computer lost it in a bad crash, last month)
to work on the faces, only, just realized "Dodging" is a technical term
should I dump the sharpening ?

    Re: Three Gentlemen Of Jakarta

    Susaan -

Technically the second of these three images may be better. There's a bit more detail and the image is crisper, probably from sharpening alone. But that's not as important.

As was mentioned this photograph has a mood that it converys and the compositional element of the three unique individuals is the root of its strength. The mystery and looks of almost resignation on their faces is a great capture.

I reallly like this image and congrats on your feature!

    drg,
Really appreciate your comment, after days of looking at the shot,I can see you are right-

Ok,as I am going to print and frame this shot-the first one that felt good enough-going with the original slightly sharpened and barely highlighted-way less than No. 2,or No.3

Its an immeasurable help to a beginner to have all this feedback-so hard to know what to throw, what's a keeper-warm and fuzzy thanks to you all !

    Susaan,

Sorry for the delay in getting back but work is frenetic at the moment.

I would not lighten the picture rather selective dodging of the faces but not too much so that the mood is the same as the original and then sharpen the faces slightly.

    Hope that helps.

Don't forget when printing you need to add some sharpness purely to compensate for the printing process itself.

    readingr,
Appreciate the tips-visiting my Uncle, next week,an artist who uses PS to manipulate his images, will pick his patient brains and learn how its done.
Think this shows that the Sony DSC H-9 is not a bad little camera for a first pick-looking at exif data,if I'm reading it right, this was shot on auto-beginning to appreciate/encompass its strengths.
