    Re: The Sealed Door

    Here be dragons ?

I like the little hint of something in the distance 1/2 way up the door.
I'm not sure if you can get away with cropping off the bottom, lose the pipe and the step.
As it is the door is vertically centred, and the angle of the pipe isn't steep enough to act as a leading line for me.
Maybe if it had been complementing the angle of the wood across the door it would look stronger?

    Re: The Sealed Door

Apart from the great door there are lovely old things around the place to feast the eye on, and that includes the colours, flakey paint and spooky shadows, door closer etc.. I respectfully disagree with Paul here and don't feel that anything needs to complement anything else here except the colours and you have dealt with that expertly.
A cracking shot of my favourite type of subject.

Like the last shot you posted Gary, I absolutely love the play of color and light in this grungy scene. I also agree that the hint of something lurking in the dark shadows beyond the door adds a lot to the ambiance.

    Re: The Sealed Door

My kind of place. There is just enough items to make it a great shot and not busy. I wish you could post a photo of the outside to give us an idea were you are doing all of this trespassing.
The factory I have been going to is sealed up like fort Knox after someone took there kids in an to the upper floors.

    Re: The Sealed Door

Were you trespassing haha? Again, nice eerie shot - although I like the others better... perhaps it is the color of the door in this one that I don't like as much as the colors in the others.

I have found a couple old abandoned houses, and just noticed one has an open (broken?) window! May man up and climb through it to see if there are any good shots inside... doubt I would be the first to climb through it though.

    Re: The Sealed Door

    Thanks for the comments

This is near the same building as the other recent shots.

I agree with you Paul that the pipe in the fg isn't in a position where it actually adds or helps lead the eye in, but at the same time it's not hurting enough for me to warrant any action in dealing with it. I do have a tighter shot where the pipe is not here at all, but without the openess of the room, the door seems to lose a bit of impact and weirdness.

This place was always on my hit list, but it was sealed up and would require some serious agressive trespassing to get it which I was not about to venture into being this is in federal property. By chance, I was driving by and saw some wonderful colorful vines growing around the building and decided to get that shot. When i approached, the door had been opened to my surprise and i think I completely forgot about the colorful vines on the outside at this point. . . .

    It is a little spooky!
Cropping the pipe would be a strecth, but I think it works as is. You could crop some, the top part without taking away from the overall feel.
Judging from your recent posts, are you onto a new project or something?

    Re: The Sealed Door

Brian, I disagree on cropping the top, up there the pipes are interesting, and I think necessary.

    Re: The Sealed Door

thanks for your feedback here. Brian, I agree with Paul that losing the pipes at top will take alot away. I have a tighter crop of this in camera, but it just doesn't have the same effect.
    thanks again
