    Long gone but not Forgotten

Exposed after a fire burned down the tall grass that covered it for years, and will grow back to cover it again . . .

Re: Long gone but not Forgotten

I really like it Gary. I don't know how you do it. U can take a picture of anything and make it look good. love the framing and the earth tones. Even the grey skies sorta add to the gloomy mood of this shot. I like the detail of the little bursts of light brown sticks scattered all over the charred earth.

    It just works.

The only thing that I'm debating myself about is the top of the car and how it's right on the horizon. I'm wondering what it would look like had it been a little above or under the horizon. but that's not that important.

    nice shot.

Terrific find Gary and you have presented it beautifully. The rust is almost alive and glowing and there is great detail in the cinders and surrounding areas. The grey blank sky is perfect here.
This old banger ought to be preserved and you have now done so in a way.

Terrific shot Gary. The word that occurred to me was "heavy" - a heavy sky, heavy old banger collapsing on itself and sinking in the mud. There is a mood here and you have caught it.

    Gary,

Such a moody photo, it really makes it stand out. As someone already said "you can make anything look good"

Just some very minor nit pics:
The tree line above the roof next to the twig which sticks up into the sky, there are a few spots of very bright sky which do not seem to fit with the rest of the sky they are too bright. There are four of them in total. It could be compression artefacts but check these out before you print. I can circle them if you want, they are small.

Re: Long gone but not Forgotten

Thanks Liban, Tom, Mike and Roger.
Yes, I was disappointed with the roof of the car lining up almost with the horizon/tree line. No matter how hard I try, I can't seem to get everything covered in my pre shot checklist in my head. I think I would have liked to have been a bit higher to let the car down some below the horizon, allowing the landscape in the distance to provide more desolate atmosphere/setting.
Roger, you have great eyes. I do see the bright spots on the tree line and will have to go zoom in on the high res version to see if it will need be adressed prior to printing.

Mike, I like the single word "Heavy" for this. It's heavy metal, heavy sky, and heavy in gloom. I am considering changing the title. I like the one word title anyway. thanks

Tom, preserved for sure. This was actually taken during our last spring, but just got around to working on this one recently. One night, some local kids set fire to this area of our Nature Preserve and I knew the next day I would be having a go around. On a side note, as bad as it looks, the fire actually helps to revitalize the preserve much as it occurs naturally. Hopefully they set no more fires, but this place has grown over so fast you would never know anything ever burned.

For what it's worth, this post processing was all done in LR2, nothing in PS. Selective adjustments and an overall vignette added to highlight the car and bring a dynamic visual to the whole scene. I'm able to do my selective saturation/desat in LR2 as well.
    Thanks for the feed back

Very well done Gary. I agree the subject, composition and processing is great. The horizon does look slightly tilted right. From the way the car is sinking it almost looks as if you used a wide angle lens. But with that said the position of the car adds to the sinking effect.

Re: Long gone but not Forgotten

Gary, my initial first impression was that the vignetting was a little focused low and to the left of the car. My opinion. Very nice shot though.
Please ask to edit photos and I'll do the same!

Personal taste, I guess but I don't like the flash and wish you could get this in natural light at a different time.
