    First Fall Colors

We had great boating weather this weekend. Chance to relax with the family, fish a little, and shoot Actually, I've never shot N/W from my boat before (this is my 11th year boating) - never wanted to bring aboard a lot of water-senstive equipment.

First one of the GBH was from me sitting at the very tip of the bow (from where I row the boat to get it into position to allow others to fish).

The second one from the same secluded cove. This time, my 10-year-old daughter is sitting at my station rowing me into shooting position. Imagine a 70 pound girl moving around a 3,000+ pound fiberglass boat with one wooden oar

This spot also has a small population of belted kingfishers which has been at the top of my "to shoot" list for some time. Will be back to try to get those in the near future. But they definitely do not like the boat - may have to be dropped off to wait in cover or anchor the boat for a couple hours. The second option sounds better - perhaps with a picnic basket and a book

I love fall. I have a few day road trips planned out, hopefully all goes well.

Btw, nice shots Loupey, getting me in the mood for fall shooting, haha.

I hope you get your Kingfishers. They were also at "the top of my list", all summer. It's really a good feeling to finally nail a sought after subject. Good luck, my friend.

    Thanks for the comments, guys!

Mike - I hope to try again this Sunday if the weather holds out. The kingfisher is such a cool little bird - I hope they get used to me being there soon for a shot.

Speaking of kingfishers, I was able to capture a few shots of a blue kingfisher when I was in Australia. A small, cute, colorful bird they are. I'll post a picture in the morning if you guys care to see.

LOL! Yeah when my son and father-in-law saw that image, they both immediately thought something looked odd.

Better than those long-necked turtles. Now, those just look ...umm... odd

    Re: First Fall Colors

Update: well we did make it back out this past weekend but no luck on the kingfishers. We heard some and had some fleeting glimpses of a couple. Hope that wasn't the last opportunity for this year.

Only caught this fellow as my son powered the boat by. A different backdrop from the norm so I'm posting it
