I like the second shot better. At first, I thought it was a crop but then looking at the background I realize you were zoomed in more and that its a different shot.
Also, the person on the rear deck adds interest though it would be better if he/she were more to the left.
What are the tall spires, visible in both shots. There appears to be two in the first but the ship has blocked one in the second. Radio towers?
I like the seond one Jay but a bit to far away and the lighting kinda washes it out some. More cropping maybe? (Mariposa is a county in California that I believe means butterfly)

Great sun reflections on the second picture and I like the colours overall. On the downside, I think the ship should have more sense of space around it; some perspective of where it could go or that it has left something. I appreciate you were limited in your composition by the distance between you and the ship.
