First Timer...please be kind or I may be crippled for life!

Okay...here goes! I've been running from this moment for a long time but you gotta start somewhere right. These are some random photos that I have taken. No real theme here. your comments and critiques are welcome.

I really like #3 & #4. I think #3 would be better if you had left more room at the bottom. Even if the baby's face is still covered by the blanket, it could use more space down there. I could say the same thing for #4, but it works for me as-is too. Overall, judging by the last three shots, I'd say that you have a good eye for photography.

Good job and welcome to the board!

    First welcome to the forums.
Second, please post only one photo for critique unless they are related.
Third......not bad. The first two have nice exposure even with the candlelight being someone blown.
I agree that the third needs more room and the bright bg behind the baby could be better.
Love the fourth one except that it definitly needs more room at the bottom.
I like the composition of the fifth but I think the contrast between the dark and light areas is too much. Perfect place for an hdr but I think you could bring out some of the shadows and darken some of the highlights in post processing.
There, you're not crippled are you. I've learned more here by putting my stuff up for critique and by critiquing and reading critiques than by any thing I've ever read on photography.
    Keep Shooting!

Thanks so much for the feedback! You're right Frog, #4 needs more at the bottom and I do have more shots with plenty of space showing on the bottom. Appreciate your comments as well NikonMan. I will stick to less photos and/or a theme next time. And yes, there will a next time seeing how I wasn't crippled this time. HA! Can't believe it took me soooo long!

Re: First Timer...please be kind or I may be crippled for life!

Welcome to the PR forums. I think your shots here have some really nice attributes. The seem to capture their subject well and are interesting. Many have some compositional problems however, and were possibly not edited too well as they seem cropped/clipped off at some spot (but perhaps you needed to do that to eliminate distractions?)

    # 1 is straightforward and works, though I think you could have gotten a little more depth of field as her chin seems to be fading out or is soft, and maybe got in more of her arm. The color is good in this one.

    # 2 is OK but seems too clipped off at the top, for the wine bottle is almost touching the top of the frame. It is probably not quite sharp enough - a scene this low of light would probably require a tripod. Vibration reduction lenses also help quite a bit (but are expensive..)

    # 3 is nice but I wish I could see more baby. Good angle on her though.

    # 4 is really pretty. I would watch the composition again, it is clipped off at the bottom. A wide angle lens really works for landscape shots like this btw.

    # 5 is interesting and has some really nice geometry. But it also seems a tad clipped off at the top. I like the b&w version in your avatar too.

Hope this wasn't too hard. Like I mentioned, the shots are interesting. You might just want to open up the scenes a little more.

I think #3 would be better in color. 4 and 5 need more room at the bottom and 5 is leaning. Very good first post over all.

    Hi,
I like the tree shot best. the colour is very pleasing. I wish you could include more path in the shot.

Here is a different perspective of #4 bringing more of the lower half into the shot. Again, thanks for the C&C

I like the second edit much better. Another element, a couple walking holding hands would help. It appears to be leaning right as well. Very good though.

Nice, I thinks the road is leanning though I'm wonder how would it be if you crop this one vertical just a thought.

Straightened and cropped as suggested. I like it this way also. I guess it really is all in the eye of the beholder. I think a shot like this can work several ways. Thanks again everyone! For my 1st post i'm very happy with the responses.
