    Bald Eagle

Shot through a vertical wire fence, so I couldn't use flash!

    Great eagle shots!

I like the first one most, the bird is off-centered and looking into the photo. The background is also blurred with a pleasing greenish tint.

And by the way, are you sure that you didn't use flash for the 2nd picture?

I couldn't - otherwise the fence would have been noticable. It does look like there's a flash in his eyes - it must be from the light above. I have one photo that I did use flash and it came out terrible!

    And thank you!

OK. But EXIF says flash was indeed used for both.

Nope, doesn't look like flash to me, light is too diffuse

    Re: Bald Eagle

I wonder if the catch light you see in the eyes is a reflection off the lens from the sunlight. You can see that the subject would've been backlit if there had been more direct light. Just surmising.

Nice work on both shots. You can still see the fence a bit in the first shot but is adds to the shot IMO and the second shot captured the eyes perfectly. Nice work.

    Re: Bald Eagle

You do have me wondering if my photo caught someone else's flash (possibly off to the right of the photo) - if I used flash, I wouldn't have only had my shutter speed so low. I only have the built in, harsh flash. Until I get something better, I hardly try to use it unless I'm in very low light (they usually come out bad =( )

With flash, it would have came out more like this one:

Except a couple of hot spots in the first pic, good bald eagle head shots.

    Re: Bald Eagle

Congrats on a well deserved FP. However, according to the EXIF data, the flash was used in the second photo, but not the first.
