What would you do

My trusty 10d is at a critical decision making time. From what I can tell the sensor filter is scratched. looking at the filter I can physically see the scratches as the photo shows. Up to f7 the scratches do not show. Above f7 they are noticeable the picture attached was at f22.
Calling around the cheapest I found to replace the filter is $295.00. More than really the camera is worth.
Guess my question is would you spend that money or is it time to retire the 10d and save for a 50d. This is my only camera I do not have a back up.
Any thoughts suggestions appreciated.

Are you sure it's not dust? Try giving it a wet-cleaning with a sensor swab and some eclipse.

A couple of times I've had stuff like that show up, but it has just been dust or something else. Try cleaning it - nothing to lose at this point.

Doesn't look like a scratch to me either. I would try a good wet cleaning. If it does turn out to be a scratch, do an IR conversion, that's my plan with my 10D.

This is a great idea. A friend bought a D70 about a year ago to do just this. It's really cool although something he doesn't use often - but used occasionally it's a great way to come back with a great shot when the light isn't cooperating (he's a commercial shooter). I can't remember the name of the place who did the conversion, but it's "the" place that's usually mentioned... If you're interested in this, I'll find out who did it.

I bet it's Life Pixel. I would love to do this with my DRebel. Still waiting to see how much I use the DRebel now that I have the 40D before taking that step. Budget is an issue too.

Yup, that's the one - $400 for IR conversion. Or, they'll replace the filter (basically repair it, if this is the problem) for $350. I'm sure that's less money than what a good clean 10D sells for used these days, but check it out before you do it. IOW if the camera's only worth $300 on a good day if perfect, then it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to spend $350 on a repair.

Thanks guys for the help. I tried a good wet clean and pepec pads still there it is scratches.. Life Pixel to replace filter 350 plus it says to add another 50 for 10d. Had one quote of 295.00. Think I will shoot at f7 or below for next couple of months or so then opt for the 50d.
