I would like to see the bird being more proinent in the photo which means a really tight crop from this shot.

The composition here makes for a really nice change from the usual bird on a stick shots. I enjoy his body language as though he is deciding whether to stay put or take the plunge. Please tell me if I am wrong here but I feel the blurring, particularily around the parapet to be very artificial looking and this is a minus point for me.
I have a total lack of respect for anything connected with society, except that which makes the roads safer, the beer stronger, the food cheaper, and the old men and old women warmer in the winter and happier in the summer. Brendan Behan
When using shallow DOF I prefer to have everything in front of the main subject in focus, kill the DOF in the back (just my preference). In other words I'd like to see the bottom of this image cropped out a bit.
Possibly a bit off the left hand side as well to balance out the composition, but overall I like it quite a bit.
The bokeh is clean, simple, calming and works to highlight the bird quite well.

No post-processing blurring needed. All in-camera (300mm f4). Cloned out some dirt though. Not a good looking rail for sure
