    Night fog over Malibu

Caught this on the way home after a good afternoon of shooting. Rest of the pics from that day are here.

I like your placement of the horizon.

The overall color seems a little brown/green.

    Lovely composition.

    Nice lighting.

    Get thee to Europe.

    LOL.

Would you settle for Chicago on Labor Day?

I left the white balance as Daylight, because I liked the glow. When I set it to Incandescent (my usual night-scape WB setting) it lost a lot, IMO. But I'll try and fine tune it. I agree it's a little much ...

MB: here are some variations. The first is with the WB set to Daylight, but cooled down. The second is WB set to Incandescent.

I really think the first shot, the original, is absolutely perfect. Totally would buy that image, absolutely gorgeous. Excemplifying the sky and the dragonfire of clouds over the cool, calm and soft ones is just genius

I can't make up my mind which version I like. They are both very good.

I personally like the WB set to Incandescent shot the best. Different, but I really can't put my finger on it. More dreamlike?

    Re: Night fog over Malibu

My first thought was to say #2 was great because I think the clouds do suggest some very dreamy thoughts and the coolness of the colors makes me thinks of water.

But after comparing for a few minutes I have to say #1 is awesome-er :aureola: as the contrast of the colors is much more exciting and dynamic, plus it makes the reflections of light shining back up from the layer of fog that much more noticeable and magical.

Great moment for shooting whichever you choose - looks like you made some interesting decisions and weren't afraid to experiment. Good work! Thanks for posting these!

My thoughts exactly, although in this case (since they all look pretty good) I think it is the photographers choice.

Thanks for the comments. The first one is truer to original color, which is one of the reasons I went with that WB. I also felt that it "popped" a bit more, similar to what CLKunst said.

    Re: Night fog over Malibu

Wonderful image. Very nicely done with the long exposure and overall composition.I actually prefer the cool tones of the incandescent WB as it gives me the cool night mood and the lack of additional colors seems to simplify and bring it up a notch. Just my feeling on that . . .
    Great work

Yeah the incandescant gives a cool space feeling to it. All are nice.
Please ask to edit photos and I'll do the same!

Thanks a lot for the comments, guys.

Jgredline: Ain't that the truth. Unless we're lazy, which I can definitely get, if we think outside a 4-block radius we're swimming in photo-ops.

This is one of those things where I post different versions, and every time someone says they like a particular version for this particular reason, I'm, like, "Yeah, that's the best version!"
