I wish it were snow..

I took a few of these today after a rainstorm.

It made my annual mid-summer winter jonesing kick in, I started picturing the same tree covered with snowflakes, not rain. I started wishing for cooler, less humid weather, lots of snow to photograph and of course lots of skiing. Nothing like wishing for winter on a brutally hot and humid July day!

Shot with an Oly E-510, Oly 35mm macro lens and an FL-36 flash bounced off of a reflector.

Comments, critiques and criticsms welcome and encouraged.

Re: I wish it were snow..

Well, it isn't snow, but I think you have a lot of good opportunity here and now. This is a real pretty shot. I like everything about it - color, timing, DOF, etc. The only thing I see that could be improved is the amount of the leaf / branch you showed: I would like to see more of it (seems a tad bit cut off).

Keep shooting those summer shots

Re: I wish it were snow..

Thanks everyone for the compliments/critique.

I tried a few other crops, let me know what you think. Cropping wise, I have some room to play on this image and I have a handul of other very similar images, just with differeing compostition. I think I am going to put some time into this/these images.

Thanks again!

Re: I wish it were snow..

Hey Dumpy! Can I get a full-size version of that very last crop you did with just the drop and 3 needles and blurry background please? I want to make that my wallpaper on my computer. I LOVE that pic!

If possible yes, I can't remember now, but that may actually be the full size crop. I'll check over the weekend at some point. I'll let ya know.

I like it, it looks like you did some additional sharpening around the droplet. Is there anywhere else that I didn't see?

it also looks like you cloned out the flash, that is something I have been thinking about doing myself.

If you don't mind, I am going to try and emulate your post processing.

Re: I wish it were snow..

Great photo's, well done. I like the close-up of the drop most of all.
PS: It's snowing in Australia - Blue Mountains south/east.

I smart sharpened entire crop first,40-50%, and then smart sharpened the droplet again seperately as well as cloned out the flash. Also cleaned up a few out of focus droplets here and there. I'm pleased you approve and by all means..its your pic!

Check my user gallery, I've uploaded a 1024x768 version. It's a slightly different crop, but is a close up of the droplet.

Thanks everyone for all the wonderful compliments and tips!!

Re: I wish it were snow..

All the variations of this one are pretty good, but I find myself liking the third image you posted (the full vertical shot) the best. A suggestion would be to darken the branch in the background and clone out the blown out highlight in the reflection. Very nice image

Thank you, I think the full vertical one is my favorite too. I'm without my editing computer for about a week (long story), but plan on making some more changes (especially cloning out the blown out part) once I'm back up and running.

When did this go sticky? I feel very honored!!
