Very nice Dave! I'm going to have to go with the first shot. The second one feels like you are cramping the couple in between the trusses of the bridge and the edge of the frame.

Number 1 for the same reason tha Aaron states.
The only thing that is bothersome to my eye is the dark shadow across the bridge.

    Re: Expression of Love

Definitely the first .. in the second they look ever so cramped - almost as though the picture is trying to squeeze them out. Generally speaking, this kind of thing is usually best with the main subject on the left - perhaps because that the eye tends to move from left to right?

    Cheers

    Re: Expression of Love

I like the first also however I would try flip flopping the second so the couple apears on the left of the image. No one will know other than you and the couple that the image is reversed. The human eye reads left to right and if you place your subject on the right as it is you eye naturally sees the trusses of the bridge and pays little attention to the couple. Try switching it and see what you think then.

Very cool shots. I am with the majority - I like the first one better.

    Re: Expression of Love

Thanks for the comments I do believe the bottom one is cramped as well but I liked how the trusses moved your eyes into the picture toward the couple. I don't have the software on this computer to switch them but maybe when I go to the office. About the eye moving left to right.. I am not so sure that left to right is universal because I think its affected by how we read and write. In english everything is left to right but other languages read right to left. Do you think that plays any role in how we see an image?

    Dave,

I hope you don't mind I flipped your image to demonstrate what your eye sees. Same picture I did not edit it at all other than rotate canvas.

    Original:

What do you think of it this way?

The first image all I noticed really was the trusses and then the weeds or grass at the end of the bridge. The second image the first thing I noticed was the veins in his arm and hand. Then details on the couple. Either way the image works. Excellent capture and fantastic composition.

    Re: Expression of Love

I still like the first one better. You at least get a profile of the guys face. Adds to the feeling of intimacy.
    Great exposure, by the way.
You might try some different crops on it. the opening of the bridge says something. do you really want it too? Try cropping out the right, just at the edge of the railing shadow. It would give it a more industrial look......like an add for Axe or something like that.
    Look through a glass eye.
    Give it a few tries.
Nothing goes right in its time.

    Re: Expression of Love

I like both first 2 shots, but agree with Frog on the shadow as a distraction.

The first shot I like because it tells me the young lady is teasing the guy with a pompous suggestion and he's being, well he's being a young man, casual and nonchalant with his reaction (a “hunter gatherer”).

The second shot; the young lady says she's joking and the guy accepts the invitation, you can see his hand is coming out of his pocket so he's motioning to also touch her as noted by Lori with the young lady. Other than that they are very good B&W's... and I’m known to ramble.
    Shootme...

Please don't edit and re-post or use my images (not that you'd want to anyway...). without my written permission. Thank you
