    From the bridge

Just across the road.....only an hour or so that there's any light on this creek at all.

Hmm... I remember when my D80 used to do this. Here's the issue- you blew out the highlights. Basically, everything seems to acquire a cyan-like cast to it since the sensor blows the highlights. I'm afraid there's little to do to rescue the shot, because it would have been a definite keeper. My advice is that when you have a gigantic dynamic range (shadows to bright sun) go for HDR and bracket three shots on your D80. I would center-weight meter the branches near the sky.

    Re: From the bridge

Ok.....I'm not sure that the leaves and that bit of water are that blown out but it just so happens that I had done quite a bit of bracketing on some of the shots I took.
I've only used the photomatrix a couple of times but just might have to breadk down and buy it.
After combining, I did some tone mapping and then resized and sharpened in pse5.

    Any better?

    Re: From the bridge

To me the image looks tilted quite a bit to the left (it may not be but that is the way it looks).

I have no issue with the tonal values of the first image, actually I like it better than the second..
    No, I DON'T need that.

Hiya Frog... I also am drawn to the first... call me crazy but I would love to hunker down with a glass of wine and unwind from the day listening to the music of the creek..... The second looses some of the details that pop the movement of the water... I like it!

    Re: From the bridge

    Thankyou, MB and Jdoc.
The more I looked at the first the more I liked it, too. Its the more realistic of what was there.
Had to try the hdr, though as I had done some bracketing. By the time I was done, I had to go ahead and quit using the free version and bought the download.

Tricky lighting situation, Frog ..... but one you did pretty well on. It seems to open a natural pathway but I keep wishing there was something, like a deer, taking that path.

Still, a very pretty late spring scene. I wish I wasn't in the desert

    Re: From the bridge

frog - I don't think it was all that blown out - in fact, it is a well handled scene considering the variation in light. There is a bit of a tilt though as far as I can see.

    Cheers
