    Reflections On A Wave

Usually San Diego is covered in a thick blanket of fog and heavy clouds for the month of June. Some days, it does not clear at all at the coast. However, this year has been different with sunny clear skies, wall to wall sunshine from dawn to dusk. I took advantage of the beautiful evening, headed to La Jolla and came away with these. Hope you like them.

P.S. If you watched the US Open last week, the cliffs in the background of the first shot may look familiar.

I like the second one though I wish the top of the middle spray was in frame.

    Re: Reflections On A Wave

Saw this in the gallery and thought I'd come check it out here.

Have to agree with Frog about the top of the spray, but the overall effect is just about beyond words... Wonderful light and action.

    Frog/pweb:

Thanks very much for the comments. I will see if I have a similar shot of the second image without the top cut off. Good eye, thanks.

    Re: Reflections On A Wave

The problem with both of the images is the long format (right out of the camera I assume). I suspect square would be better to include the height of the wave splash but 4/3 would probably do too.

The first image could probably use a person in the foreground too.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Re: Reflections On A Wave

CF - I like # 2 much better as it's exposure and colors are quite different than what you normally see. I just wish the water wasn't shooting out of the top of the frame like it is. Still, that isn't a dealbreaker. I would consider doing something different with the composition as well, as MB suggested. Not sure what, but perhaps cropping off some of the left side. ??? worth an expt.

I really like the first one.The colors of the second are spectacular.Maybe include the tip of a surfboard as a foreground element. Just my thoughts.

    MB/GB/Rick:

Thanks very much for the comments; getting feedback from all three of you is really outstanding. I fixed the spray shooting out of the frame in #2, and you are correct, it helps a lot. Not sure what to do about the "long format; crop of course, but I had thought the entire rock was important. This gives me something to think about.

The subject both shots is not only the spray, but the reflection below so had not considered anything else in the scene. However, I do have a shot that does include people and the spray and will post that soon. Let me know if you think it improves the concept.

    Regardless, thanks again.

I'd like to see the one you fixed the spray going off frame. Cloning I assume?

    Frog,

Here is my attempt at fixing the spray going off the top of the frame. What do you think? If you didn't know, could you tell?

    Re: Reflections On A Wave

I think your second image is very good and I would leave it alone. Good job at editing, but I don't think you needed it.
The first photo is too tightly cropped and does not have the dynamic elements of the second, being the colors and back lighting.
Really like that second shot . . .
