    Rural Graffiti

I just posted this in the graffiti thread in viewfinder. Its been hanging out on my comp since last Octover and I never really knew what to do with it.
When I decided to post it there, I decided to see how it looked in b/w and like it much better than the color.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Nice work Frog. The conversion looks good. I like the light angleing through the shot. I only wish it were wider at the bottom. I keep wanting more to look at.

Good eye Frog. The streaming light is very unique, really makes this stand up.I am drawn to the door over, again.Yes,the B/W is very effective. Also noteworthy is the shadow detail.Very good.
As greg mentioned "wider on the bottom" I agree, that hits home.

    Re: Rural Graffiti

Thankyou, Greg & Rick! Maybe I'll get back there someday with my wide angle lens and get more of the bottom. If the building is still standing.

Good catch and use of B&W.

I find the image to be nicely chaotic (which is pretty rear AFAIK) and the diagonal lighting is sweet.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Re: Rural Graffiti

Yikkes.... I don't know what to make of this cause it's such a contradiction. You normally don't want streaks like this but I do like them, esp how they're angled! The big bright area on the left center is distracting to me, and I might consider cropping off the open area at the top so that you can see the sunlight on the wall and door, but you cannot see where it is entering. I think this spot would be great for a model shoot.

    Re: Rural Graffiti

Thankyou, GB. I actually thought I'd get more crop suggestions. I feared the bright streaks of light would be a big bad but most people aren't complaining about them.
Its a far piece from here but I'd like to get back when the light is better but still streaking in like that.
Do you think fill flash would have cut the brightness of the streakes?

Thankyou, Andy. I'll try to live up to your praise.

    Re: Rural Graffiti

Frog, this is a solid composition with a great subject. I like the diagonal streaks of light painted about the room. This reminds me also of why I never cared or felt much a need for HDR. The dark shadow areas without detail add to the mood and depth here as well as the bright streaks and light from the window and door area.
Looks great, Frog. A real treat to view and study this image.

    Re: Rural Graffiti

    Frog,

What a beautiful shot! You did a good job converting to b&w - which has always been my favorite.

As others have said, there is so much to see in this photo. The b&w emphasizes the depth of meaning and feeling, some sadness, history. It's a great photo - I'll view it some more.

    Congratulations on the Sticky!

    Liz

I don't know what to say. There are so many fine photographers here and so many fine pictures in the critique forum that I am honored and humbled at the same time.
Maybe I should check out some other shots I have lingering about.

    Re: Rural Graffiti

I had a photography instructor who had an assignment which was mystery and intregue... This TOTALLY fits the bill... I know this would have been one he wanted to keep!...
Love it It makes you think about what happened in that room, it is a lonely shot... maybe I am reading tooo much into it but it grows on me!
