    Train on a Misty Morning

I could almost throw a rock from where I took this shot and hit the house I grew up in. This one brought back some memories. What do you think?

I absolutely LOVE this! What more can be said? It's like a post card. I would send this to a few train magazines.

I tried and tried to find something negative and all I could come up with is eye strain.
Another great one for you, Greg.

    Greg

I am going to be a little critical on this photo because it is so good. So hold onto your seat.

I would select the front of the engine and add a feather of about 50 to the selection. I would then increase the shadow either by burning, levels, contrast, or curves to the selection (covering PSE and PS users) just to make the front of the train jump out at you.

make sure the lights are not selected when doing the above.

I would also consider cloning the two white posts out so that there are absolutely no distractions.

    And thats it.

    Love the photo.

Nice simple shot here Greg with everything nicely subdued in the early morning mist.

Perfect composition and mood here, Greg. I can see what Roger is getting at and perhaps it could give a stronger three dimensional feel to this but as is it is a very strong one.
    Great work

Great image Greg. I love train photos. Haven't shot many train photos lately though. Need to grab the camera and go chase trains.

Re: Train on a Misty Morning

This is a fabulous shot. I agree with Roger that the front of the train could "pop" a little bit. Either what he said and/or maybe just increase the saturation a bit so the yellow railings (?) pop out.

Thanks all. Roger I will try a little of your ideas but you may be a touch over my head. I also thought about cloning the white markers but thought they might add depth. I will remove them and see.

Re: Train on a Misty Morning

I'm bothered by the left foreground. The sort of browned out ditch at the edge of the gravel gives me all sorts of problems.

    I'm thinking crop.
    No, I DON'T need that.
