So I was sitting on my front porch this evening and a blue jay landed in the tree out front. Without skipping a beat I shot him and followed where he went having to move to the back yard in the process.
When I got back there I was wondering why he was being so quiet. So I sat patiently for a few minutes and then another appears from the bushes and lands beside him. She then does a series of wing flapping and stops posed, rear end high and wings spread out like a table. The original I was following then jumps on top and begins coitus.
The entire process lasted about 35 seconds and they were off to their usual business of nest building and flew out of site. Of course I happened to get one last shot of the female in silhouette before she flew off.
(sorry for the OOF shots.. they were moving around so fast and I was so concentrating on the task at hand I forgot to refocus)
