    More flowers!

I took my E-510 and the 35mm macro lens for a small walk this morning in Brussels.

Here are two of the photos.

    Re: More flowers!

Hello fjhleger. Funny how they're opposites in color temperature - blue is cold, red is warm.

I think they're OK, but just a tad off technically (have a few problems). What do I mean by technical problems? The top one simply needs more depth of field (DOF): There is only one spot where it is sharp, and it is not even the most interesting part of the photo. Note that if you do shrink the aperture you will need to use a longer shutter speed, and that might mean you need to use a tripod. I also think I would have left a little more space above the top of the flower.

The bottom shot is more appealing to me. I think the red is perfect! The lighting on it is not too harsh, not too dull - very good. But there is not enough space on the sides, so the flower feels cramped. It might also need more DOF, though watch for the background getter too sharp because it looks like a sidewalk, which is not the best of backgrounds. I think good flower photography requires a number of things to make the photo really good, and background is often a very neglected part. I also think using a tripod is often a necessity, but most flower photographers don't want to bother with them (true for me a lot of the time too ! ). But the images can look really good if you do.

    Colors are nice.
Along with what GB said, you've clipped the petals in both shots on the right side.

    Re: More flowers!

Thanks for your comment. This is the first time i use a macro lens with flowers, and the conditions were far from perfect (too much wind that morning). However, this is no excuse for the clipping.

    I will try again soon.

    Thanks for your kind comments,
    François
